Cap Anson was the first player to join/start the 3,000 Hits Club. During the 1887 season, bases on balls were counted as hits and Anson walked 60 times. In an effort to 'clean up history' a committee changed the rules of that particular season (and others) thus revoking Anson from the club. The rules were restored to their original format in 2001, and Anson is once again a member of the club he started.

Ty Cobb was the fourth player to reach the 3,000 Hits Club and the first player in baseball history to reach 4,000 hits. Pete Rose was next player to join the 4,000 hits club and both of them had all of their career hits in the same league.

Craig Biggio attempted to stretch his 3,000 hit, a single, into a double, and was thrown out at second on the play - the only 3,000 Hits Club member to have that happen on the historic play.
Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Rafael Palmeiro, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez are the only six members of the 3,000 Hits Club who are also members of the 500 Home Runs Club (four righties, one lefty, one switch-hitter).
